If you live in any of these areas, please consider volunteering a small amount of your time to help out the people of Red River Parish.

A volunteer firefighter holds an admirable and honorable position in the community.  As an active volunteer, you can experience personal rewards and satisfaction by knowing that you are providing a valuable service to your community.

It takes a special person to be a volunteer firefighter.  You must be willing to sacrifice your time and energy to help others.  You must be able to interact and work well with other people under stressful conditions. 

A lot of people think that by being a member of the volunteer fire department you have to fight fire.  While that is a major function of the fire department, it isn't necessarily true for all volunteers.  There are different areas of the fire service in which you can serve.  Some of the services we provide are fire suppression, search/rescue, extrication, water rescue, and basic emergency medical services (EMS).  However, the possibilities for service extends beyond those listed.  Many of our stations have a Ladies Auxiliary or support team that helps with fundraising activities and offers assistance on an emergency scene by providing food and drinks to the firefighters. 

We encourage our members to be active in more than one area of the fire service.  However, we realize that everyone's limitations are different and that sometimes this is not possible.  We try to utilize the skills and abilities of each volunteer to provide a more effective service to the residents of Red River Parish.

Requirements for Membership:

-Must be at least 18 years of age**

-Must possess a valid Louisiana driver's license (Class E minimum)

-Must have NO felony conviction (A criminal background check will be performed.)

-Must be an elector of Red River Parish or a resident of a neighboring fire district with which the Red River Parishwide Fire Protection District has a mutual agreement

-Must be in good repute in the community

**To be a junior firefighter you must be at least 15 years of age, but not more than 18 years of age.  A junior firefighter cannot drive any fire department vehicle or fight a fire.
